To finish “the greatest view” day.
silverchair - The Greatest View
Sometimes I get posts with fake/otherwsie versions, so I clicked play to see if it was genuine. I heard the first tenth of a second, stopped it, and knew.
I first heard this July 25, 2002. I was seventeen, listening to the radio in my parents 2000 Mirage, driving along Alpha. They presented it as a new single—a complete surprise. I hadn’t heard anything new from them since Ana’s Song, and I wasn’t much a fanatic of them. I knew about Daniel Johns’ anorexia and had suspected that it had just gotten worse, and his material would remain sad and slightly depressing.
So hearing this was quite a surprise. I was heading home, but drove the block in circles so I could hear the rest. It was sunny. I was smiling. A song had never impacted me so much.
This is the most important song of my life, and it’s still as beautiful as it was in 2002, when I was a virgin, when things were simpler, before I had a career and a degree and a cat. It will likely always be the most important song of my life.
